Where to start

Which class is right for my child?

We have five classes, grouped by age and level. Most people start in the Kids Class, the Basic Class or the Weekend Class. Adults with no experience start in the Basic or Weekend Class, the same as everyone else.

  1. Kids Class

Kindergarten, ages 3–6. Movement and games first, so kids learn to enjoy exercise.

  2. Advanced Class

Black belts and pre-black belts. Harder training, more advanced technique.

  3. Competition Team

By coach invitation. For students who want to compete in sparring.

Adults can start from zero, too. If you've never trained, start in the Basic or Weekend Class. If you'd rather not train with younger kids, the Weekend Class has more high school students and a few adults. Adults who already hold a pre-black or black belt can go straight to the Advanced Class.

Language

Do you teach in English?

No. Our classes are taught in Mandarin. We'd rather tell you now than have you find out on your first day.

That said, we currently have international students, including kids from families who don't speak much Mandarin. They train in the same classes as everyone else.

A lot of taekwondo is learned by watching and copying. Coaches demonstrate techniques before students try them. The core terms come from Korean and are used in dojangs around the world.

The easiest way to start is a trial class. Message us on LINE, tell us your child's age, and we'll find a time that works.

Coaches

Four coaches. Seventeen dan grades between them.

All four are former competitors. Our founder runs coach training once or twice a month, so every coach works to the same standard.

Our story

In October 2015, a group of white belts walked in. Ten years later, two of them coach here.

Lai Kuan-yu and Chen Yi-en both started as white belts in October 2015, the year Yuan Power opened.

Today Lai is our head coach and holds a 4th dan. Chen is a coach and holds a 3rd dan.

A certificate shows that a coach is qualified to teach. Training students who become coaches shows that the teaching works.

Three things you can check

Ordinary kids, steady progress

Competing is always optional. Every one of these medals was won by a student who chose to compete.

Start with a trial class

The trial class has a small fee, fully credited toward that month's tuition if you sign up that day.

We'll walk you through how classes work, missed-class make-ups and tuition in person on your trial day.

No pressure to sign up. Take your time and decide at home if you like.
